I love Spring—the newness of the longer days, the flowering trees, and the sense of new opportunities in the coming months. But in a time of the pandemic, those feelings are dampened by the realities of what we all now face. I think of my readers often and hope you and your families are safe and healthy and are able to find moments of calmness and repose.
As I write this, I can’t help but think about this time of year and how it is signaling to us to see light in what may be a dark time. Many of us have recently celebrated Passover or Easter—two holidays that encourage reflection and gratitude. This is the perfect time of year to contemplate the selfless expression of universal love and focus on what is truly important in our lives.
I’ve been focusing on those important gifts in my own life. My compassionate husband, beautiful children, large extended family, and supportive friends all sustain me and give me spiritual nourishment. It is easy to get caught up in despair, but much in the world is good and inspiring. I see this goodness among healthcare workers, food service providers, and those checking in on the elderly in their neighborhood. I find the same goodness in the natural world as I work in my garden—as good a hobby as any during social distancing!
