My Adoption Story in First for Women

If you didn’t catch the article in First for Women about the adoption of my incredible children in 1996, you’ll find the article here. As you can imagine, writing the essay was painful, heartwarming, difficult–how does one boil down twenty years of parenting in several paragraphs? Finally I decided to simply tell of those initial days leading into my decision to adopt four kids, and the special moments that came after we arrived home in the U.S.

Several days before the article appeared, I also learned that Women’s World had reviewed Sweet Lake. That’s right–I had no idea. Luckily, my older sister heard about the coverage from a friend, and then alerted me. Exciting!

Many thanks for your kind words, Judy. I feel incredibly blessed to have received the opportunity to parent. By the time the adoption finalized, I was nearly midlife and giving up home on the dream. Thankfully my dream finally came true!
