The Glass is Half Full

I’m a “The Glass is Half Full” person. Always have been.

Like most of you, I’ve had my share of difficulties, from losing loved ones to painful ends to relationships to financial uncertainty. And now, add the COVID-19 pandemic to that list. Despite these challenging times, I work to focus on the good that inevitably arises from a bad situation.

Why must we undergo difficult times? The reasons may differ from one person to another. Passages in the Torah and the Bible speak to the belief that The heart of man plans his way, but God establishes his steps.

Collectively we may undergo the same experience, but the lessons learned and the opportunities available may differ. To discover our personal path forward, we must open our hearts and minds to the good that lies before us. We must hold faith in the goodness that surrounds our lives. This is not easy. It calls on us to have a positive mindset.

Kendra Cherry at Very Well Mind describes a positive mindset this way: “It’s…approaching life’s challenges with a positive outlook. It does not necessarily mean avoiding or ignoring the bad things; instead, it involves making the most of the potentially bad situations, trying to see the best in other people, and viewing yourself and your abilities in a positive light.” For me, I am certainly not avoiding the important information I need to know right now in order to be safe, but rather not allowing this massive shift in my life to take over my thoughts. I have thought about lessons that I am learning right now such as becoming recommitted to the benefit of quiet, unplugged time and gaining writing inspiration from those who are accomplishing herculean feats to keep communities safe and vibrant. So for me right now, I see the glass is half full… maybe even completely full!

How are you focusing on the positive aspects of your life’s experience right now?

My focus right now is on my son who has been in the hospital for over a month now with this Covid19 on life support

    Hi Christine,
    Enjoyed reading your blog.
My glass is half too. I try to be positive about what is going on right now. I’m a more positive person than negative. Believe me I have my moments. I know a lot of people are struggling right now. But, I believe you can found blessings in every situation. It may be later down the road, but it’s there.❤️ My prayers for everyone!

Staying connected and staying present is often a step at a time. We’ve had our “arguments” but we try hard not to go to bed angry. We hope you are well and staying safe

      That is wise advice!

We did one thing we could control during this crisis, we turned our couch around. That’s right, we turned one of the two couches we have in our family room to face outdoors. The back of the couch now faces into the room, but who cares, no one is coming to visit us any way. Now our couch faces the beautiful outdoors, and our three bird feeding stations. It has given us a new Positive perspective. On a nice day, we can open all three windows, feel the sunshine, See the forest and blooming Virginia Bluebells, and hear birdsongs, breezes in the trees, and calming chimes. It’s like being outside without worrying about ticks or mosquitoes. Feels like we’re Up North on vacation in a cozy cabin. It’s a great place to enjoy our morning cup of coffee. One small change, but if feels so right, right now.

I am choosing to find the joy in each moment. Yes, times are very tough. I am praying for everyone. We are all affected by this awful virus. I am looking for special things in His creation and giving thanks in each moment. Along with shedding tears, I am also sharing smiles.

Sharing smiles is so important (and a bit challenging behind a mask!). Thank you for sharing joy!! 😊

For me, it doesn’t benefit anyone, especially myself or my family to wallow in what might be or could be or should be. It is what it is and this too shall pass. I don’t consider spending more time at home with my family a bad thing. Our oldest daughter is getting married in October so her Daddy and I cherish this time together. I might miss being able to pop up to the city to do a bit of shopping or the occasional dinner out with family or friends, but really I’m saving money by not going lol. I can still have a virtual dinner or have a weenie roast outdoors with friends while still being socially distant (which we have done). I continue reading my Bible daily which helps considerably. Listen to some uplifting gospel or christian music, get outside every chance you get and enjoy the wonderful creation the Lord has blessed us with. These are a few of my tips for everyone struggling. Also I will be praying for your son, Christina while he battles this awful virus.

How nice you are getting to spend extra time with your daughter before she starts a new chapter in her life. Such a blessing!
